About: Cinnamon Bark essential oil has a sweet, hot, and spicy aroma you would expect from this very popular culinary herb. The essential oil from cinnamon is very concentrated and must also be used carefully due to its heat. Aside from the bark, the twigs and leaves are also distilled and all have similar uses although their aromas, value, strength, and colors vary. We feel the essential oil extracted from the bark of true cinnamon yields the strongest, most therapeutic essential oil and we source only true cinnamon bark oil that has not been combined with essential oil from the leaves or twigs.
There is also some confusion between Cinnamon and Cassia. Cinnamon (True Cinnamon also known as Ceylon Cinnamon) and Cassia are two different species and do not derive from the same tree. True Cinnamon bark powder for example is lighter in color, sweeter and less pungent than cassia powder which is more common used in our culinary dishes. Cassia is darker in color, spicier, sharp and less sweet. True Cinnamon is also more associated with possible benefits to blood sugar regulation. Interestingly the way the bark from the two different species rolls and appears when dry can be also indicate its species.
